I'm not a very active user on deviantART. I'll check on it a couple times a week. Today I checked my messages and saw questions like "Why did you delete your Daily Deviation?"

First of all, I had no idea I had a Daily Deviation. Nobody notified me. I didn't even get a note on this site or an actual email. So I checked the last few days of Daily Deviations. I saw which one it was and that particular image had already been deleted. It wasn't deleted by my own choice. It was one of the images that was at the center of a legal issue. That issue seems to have been resolved and I made a public statement about it here. [link]

Did you delete the photo that earned you a DD?! It's alright if you did, it's just...surprising, to say the least. I could say that maybe you're not one for publicity, but you have links asking to vote for your work on some deviations. Very unexpected, at any rate.

Anyway, not to bother you too much, but I felt I had to ask: what lead to you to that decision? It's not something I could see without some philosophy, ideal, or previous experience encouraging. I find it fascinating.

Watched the link, and it's really sad how it came to that. I hope I didn't seem like I was criticizing you earlier, either. I was just curious what was up, because I've never seen that happen. Your work deserves any recognition it can get, and I hope that DD or not, you keep getting noticed. Thanks for taking the time to explain yourself.

the number of guitars I need is represented by the variable N. The value of N is
defined by the relationship:

N = X + 1

where X = the number of guitars I own at any given time.

Why'd you delete your first DD? It was worthy.

Oh wow, I just realized you deleted your Daily Deviation! Damn, David! That's the ballsiest thing I've ever seen someone do!! You're my hero, bro! :dance:

I wish I had stones like yours! That was friggin' brilliant! lol If it sounds like I'm being sarcastic it's not my intention, I'm dead serious! You, sir, ROCK! :heart:

Was deleting your Daily Deviation a way of thumbing your nose at the whole DD concept or was it in protest of some kind? I hope you get back to me, I'd love to know your reasoning! What ever the reason, that's ballsy man! Really! :D

Although deleting the photo just to snub the whole Daily Deviation concept sounds like something I would do, there were other factors involved. Also, even though it is nice to have my work selected for it, it honestly wouldn't do much for me in the long run. That is, unless it brings more than views to my work. Having eyeballs on you is nice, but this also my business and I need customers and clients too. I've been on DA for almost 10 years and it's done nothing for me.

DeviantART is a large community and it's hard to get noticed around here. I am very annoyed about what does get noticed. My nude/erotic/fetish photography gets hundreds, maybe thousands, more views than my paintings and drawings just because they have naked women in them.

hahah Yeah, I totally understand where you're coming from. It's clear that many people here on DA are only watched and faved because they draw, photograph, paint, etc naked girls. A lot of really fantastic artist here do no get noticed and KNOW they would get noticed if they started creating naked women in their art. I commend them for not going down that route just to get DA fame. lol Personally I don't think I'd ever cross into that territory. I love creating art that is a little on the sexy side, but hope I'd never start doing nude art or crossing that line.

I'd really love if more artists here get recognized for their style, creativity, and individuality, rather than liked mainly for the subject of there work (often regardless of the quality of the work depicting that subject).

Don't get me wrong, I adore DeviantArt - this site has been amazing for my career as well as my social life (I've meet some really great artists and individuals through DA) - but there are a few things I'd definitely change about it. The Daily Deviation System is one of them. I personally hope I never get a DD. I've seen a lot of really mediocre artists gain DA fame over night with a ton of new watchers, favorites, page views, (and all that goes along with it) just because they get a Daily Devation. I'd rather people watch me because they appreciate my talent (what little there is of it lol) than because I got a DD.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. You just touched on a subject I'm very passionate about. :)

Thank you for explaining the reasons behind the deletion of your DD. It burst my bubble a little bit (as I was hoping it was done on purpose lol) but still, I think you're awesome! Keep up the great work! :heart:
